MISS UNIVERSE 2015
Miss Universe 2015, the 64th Miss Universe pageant, was held on 20 December 2015
at the AXIS Theater, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.[4] Paulina Vega of Colombia crowned her successor Pia Alonzo
Wurtzbach of the Philippines.
80 contestants competed in this year.
This was
the first edition of the Miss Universe pageant under the new owners, WME/IMG and is the first aired by Foxand Azteca.[5] The show was marred
when host Steve Harvey mistakenly announced Ariadna Gutiérrez from Colombiaas Miss Universe
2015, even though it had been decided by the judges that Pia Alonzo
Wurtzbach from the Philippineshad
won.[6] Gutiérrez was
initially crowned and about three minutes passed before the crown was removed
and given to Wurtzbach. The show was abruptly ended without Wurtzbach
performing the traditional walk with the crown.
Initial
confusing announcement
Initially,
host Steve Harvey announced
Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutiérrez as
Miss Universe 2015 and Miss Philippines, Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach, as the 1st runner-up. However,
moments after Gutiérrez's crowning, Harvey received instructions from the
organizers that he should have announced Colombia as the 1st runner-up and
that Wurtzbach was Miss Universe. Paulina Vega then handed the crown over to Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach before
the broadcast abruptly ended.
The Miss Universe
Organization acknowledged the error and also issued a public apology to
both contestants on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Harvey later issued a public apology
on Twitter.
